Make no mistake, you are buying a cheaper lens. That said, it works better than I would have expected for the price I paid. Focus is finicky, and the lens is not a lightweight. The manual that comes in the box makes mention of some “included” filters to help mitigate the fixed aperture, but I didn’t see them anywhere. Going to try taking the lens out again once I’m more familiar with my camera’s manual mode.

I am an amateur photographer. My Sony Alpha 350 is my first DSLR. I had read in photography books (mostly purchased from Amazon.com) that I could take better photos using a tripod and a remote shutter release. I was not convinced, since my Sony already had an anti-shake feature built into the camera. It was one of the reasons I bought it. After a year of use, however, I decided it was time to consider buying a shutter release, especially for portraits and still life. I like the idea of wireless and, since Sony didn’t offer wireless, decided to give the Optika Remote Release a try.

My first use involved photos my wife asked me to take of her collection of embroidery scissors. That seemed a simple request. I took several photos holding the camera in my hand, but few came out well. Some showed movement. Others reflected light that I hadn’t realized was there. I set up my tripod, used my LCD screen to frame the shot and attached the remote shutter release. It worked like a charm! Every photo was crisp and clear, as opposed to those I’d taken by hand.
The remote release was the key! It was easy to attach and to use. It assured that no movement would occur when I took the picture. I’m so glad that I bought this without really understanding how it could help. I can’t wait to try it in landscape photography!

DONT, i repeat, DONT. get a 3ft one. They are way to short.

Only problem with these is, the lack of standards.
Nikon Canon and Sony needs to have a party and make one connector for all cameras and they might become popular once again

This is a great little addition to the Nikon D90 instead of the IR remotes that have the sensor too far to the front for discreet wildlife photography. Only problem I find with it is the lack of instructions. There were only instructions for installing the battery, duh! Product works great for bulb triggering (after I figured you had to hold the button down until the light blinked off) to hold the shutter open. Also it is very fast triggering. One other minor con is the way it hangs from the wire. I am not really fond of things hanging by the cord but a little velcro to the tripod could solve this. These little cons are the reason I gave it only 4 start, it could easily be a 5!!
